Building a new hospital and health campus from the ground up is a huge undertaking, and we continue to make amazing progress year in and year out. Last year, we saw the hospital rise up from the ground and announced our new state-of-the-art research centre. What can you expect this year?

Construction

  • We’ll complete the hospital’s 11-storey structure, a major milestone we’re excited to celebrate in the summer.
  • Work has started on the exterior of the building, including windows, insulation, and cladding.
  • Important mechanical and electrical infrastructure is being installed, like piping, plumbing and wiring.
  • Full-scale room mock-ups will be built inside the hospital, with real walls, flooring, fixtures, and equipment to help align all teams before the rest of the hospital is built.

Technology

  • BC’s first Care Coordination Centre will launch at three Providence sites; it’s like a hospital version of air traffic control that will give us better insight into beds, capacity, and bottlenecks in real-time and 24/7.
  • Early adopter clinics will help test-drive technology that will allow patients to check their own referrals and manage appointments.

Equipment

  • We continue to procure equipment for the hospital, like surgical equipment, stretchers, and furniture now that we’ve finished procuring major equipment like MRIs.

It’ll be another busy year, and we’re looking forward to sharing exciting updates with you!
